When you find opportunities in life you take them.  They do not happen often and siezing the day is important.  ONe of those times came up recently and it was moving to a new home.   My wife and I spent our entire married life we lived in apartments and we have not had to be responsible for taking care of the place we lived.  But we found a home that needed lots of work in the best neighborhood in the State.  The price was in our range due to the home and we decided to purchase it and fix it up.  This was a massive task for us and it ended up being a big mess.  Getting into a new home in the dead of winter is tough.  Getting motorcycles moved is hard too.

Being able to fix things when it is cold out makes some things impossible.  We would have to fix a room and all the things in that room needed to be moved to another room.  Then we were able to work on it but when multiple rooms were involved the home became so cluttered that we struggled to work.  Our garage filled completely up and that was at the time our only place to work.  At the end of the winter, we finally fixed the majority of the house but the garage was so full that it was not useable for anything.  It was stuffed with tools and leftover products that we had used to work on the home.  It was really sad to have an entire section of our home be worthless. This was not a sustainable solution and we had to make a change.

Storing products was the issue and we had no space or funds to do it. This is because it was simply too expensive and we were out of money that we could spend.  If anything went wrong with the home we were honestly in trouble.  So we decided that there had to be an option.  There were too many tools to get destroyed if we left it all out and we didn’t want to waste anything. This is where we decided to go outside the box.  But in reality, we were not going to far outside the box because most attics are stored this way.  We decided to organize with all the cardboard boxes that we kept ordering from Amazon.

We started and decided to use the space above us as well.  It was based on the idea of vertical space usage.  We wanted the most used items to be stacked up on top.  So we labeled each box and numbered them from one to 5 based on how high we could stack the boxes in the garage.  So we put the most used tools and products on the top with box number five and we went piece by piece until we could make our first stack in the garage.  It was really important, to be honest with how much use we would get out of it.  It took a lot of arguing back and forth but several hours later we had half of the garage clean.  The system worked well and we ended up being able to use our garage for our cars and enjoy life.

If you were not thinking about selling online last year, you most definitely are this year.  The fact is that almost every company does things online now or remotely.  Rather it is with your company or dealing with others, this is the way. For me, our business decided to pivot how it does work and many of us in our line of work started doing internal marketing.  This means that we have had to purchase a lot of our own packaging supplies and have gone through a wild ride of price and how we were able to accomplish lowering our costs.  Thanks to local lockdown laws we are trying to save money.  This is a hard thing to do and part of it is simply trying new things and learning to work on our time spent on projects.  For the marketing side, we went through a big process to figure out the supplies we would need to take on the task of doing our marketing work on our own. 

This is not an easy decision because the biggest cost is actually time.  It takes our top officers time to get it all ready and working.  And we pay for the mistakes personally.  The first thing we had to do was decide what were the most effective marketing projects in our past.  Cost and time are going to be the deciding factor and all of that has to be based on the success of the projects.  This means that we have to go through all the marketing reports of the past and decide rather the digital or the physical campaigns were the most successful and which ones will cost the most and take the most time to implement.  Once we went through all of our records we found that the hand-delivered or mailed platforms that we used gave us the most success in sales for the least amount of cost. We took the most important things and did them on our own. 

We had to get the products somewhere so that took some time to work out.  We ordered cardboard boxes, tape, paper, and even envelopes.  We printed and designed our first campaign and then we took note of each and every step.  We counted the cardboard boxes and the strips of tape, and the time it took to accomplish a set amount of each campaign.  This was a terrible painstaking process and we knew it was not going to be fun.  We filled many excel spreadsheets with data and finally, we were able to get the actual costs of what it took to make our marketing in-house.  Then we knew we could cut down on the processes and also the products we used. 

Then we had to find the best company to work with. This was a wise choice because I was able to find different products to use that allowed us to buy less and work faster.  Tape for instance was one.  We were using 6 strips of tape for each marketing gift.  It was because the tape was not strong enough to do it all in two strips. So with the advice of our packaging supplies representative, I ended up getting thicker tape which was less expensive in the long run and took less time to put on the boxes.  So we cut costs and started to thrive.

My life is now a little different.  What once was fun is now annoying.  Not because I am afraid to go outside, but because I see thousands of people living in fear over something they have almost zero % chance of being harmed from.  The false narratives that we are seeing hurt my heart and I hate the fact that our governments are lying to us at every stage.  I think that shopping used to be one of the highlights of my week.  No longer is it.  It is a task that I know many dislikes and finds it more of a forced time than a fun time.  But I love shopping and I think part of that is the social aspect of getting out and finding things that make me happy.  Now food is not a good way to bring joy to your life because it can be a detriment to your health but I find that I really enjoy getting out and seeing all the lovely candy boxes in my favorite aisle. But in 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic has made shopping a little more complicated and I want to go over the changes from beginning to now and how things have transpired.  It may all be over a lie, but getting arrested is still no joke and that is what a totalitarian society will do.  Just in case we go through this again when a real pandemic happens you will know what to expect if you just moved here. 

We all remember the original fears of COVID 19 last year.  What we did for shopping in the first few weeks was almost scary and yet completely a lie.  I remember the news saying that all shopping was dangerous and that a virus that could kill instantly or be transferred to your family could kill your old relatives.  The scare was that everything anyone touched could then be easily transferred to anyone who was old and if they had a hurt immune system you could kill them.  So we all were afraid of everything and yet we now know 99.7% + survive the virus.  No one wants to pass a deadly virus to their parents or grandparents. That was the big fear so we went to the grocery stores and stayed away from everyone.  No one got close and everyone went home and disinfected each item and it turns out it dies in sunlight instantly. So another lie that was spread.

This is so insane because we went to the trunk with bleach and sprayed down and rubbed every inch of every item we purchased and it was all for nothing.  This was insane and it was later found out that the virus could only survive on items for a few hours and that direct sunlight killed it instantly.  The lies we were told about it living up to 5 to 10 days on items were just that lies. 

So all the bleach we sprayed on our favorite candy boxes was a totally waste of time. The cost of all the cleaning supplies was very high and part of me thinks the whole thing was a scam. But we all wanted to be safe and so that is what we did. We followed a lie all for the sake of safe snacks. 

Ecommerce is now the talk of the town.  It has simply changed the whole way business is done.  It does not matter if you are selling on it or purchasing now from it, this has flat out changed.  Because of this, this year I learned a lot of different things.  I do believe that is a good thing for most people to increase their knowledge base consistently.  For myself, the company I work for ended up changing some of its business practices.  It was not the best change for some but we started to move our marketing for our company completely in-house.  This means that all of our online and manual mailing marketing was going to be put together at our office instead of ordering it out for others to accomplish.  This takes a lot of logistics and a lot of planning to actually make this happen and to do it under budget.  What this also did was mean in order to cut costs our current staff was going to take extra time to put it all together.  This was a huge switch because even our boss was packing cardboard boxes with gifts and sending them off to our partners.  It was pretty cool to see everyone take the same amount of time off to put these together but it was a process to learn how to keep the costs low.  It is nice when everyone pitches in.

Now, this all had to start somewhere and the beginning steps of this were to look at what projects we had done in the past and learn to buy the products we would need to put our own marketing together.  In all honesty, the online section was the most simply because it entailed simply writing copy and putting ads up across different social media platforms.  But the complicated steps were the direct mailing pieces and corporate gifting we do.  I ended up spending a lot of time on other people’s websites and major packaging companies’ websites to see what we could do. This was hard because there really are many steps to each one of these projects.  

We really didn’t think that the fact was aa corporate gift had to first be built from the ground up.  This means getting back to the basics because it starts with purchasing the cardboard boxes for each of the gifts.  Then we had to find the right size, shape, and color for each one.  Then it even got more complicated because we had to find the correct type of tape that looked good on them.  Then we had to choose colors or stickers for designs.  The look of these projects was complicated.  What seems like a simple task actually turns into a really complicated project due to the fact that it has to look congruent with our brand or their brand.  Then we had to fill the gifts with the correct filling.  

It turns out there is paper filling.  It can come in lots of sizes and different colors.  So we had to brand each one of these colors correctly and then find a consistency of the filling in order for it to look good and not be annoying.  There were a lot of variables but we ended up succeeding and saving a bunch of money in the process. 

Some of the plastics have made of cellulose and fatty acids. Such has called VTT thermo-cell plastic. All these components are in cooperation while production of food packaging. When it comes to the usage of thermos-cell plastic, you can use it in the same way as fossil-based plastic. They have renewable components; thus, all have the same procedure of use. Due to the advancement and development, many features of the film have met the needs of the food industry. Also, it has cooperation advancement to the testing of industrial production.

The biggest concern is the recyclability and biodegradability of the material. Cellulose-based food packaging is safe for these purposes. If you have such materials that can re-new, then you can attract customers’ interest. They have oil-based and foil-based materials. It can work as traditional plastic and have the ability of recycling. Some kind of oil-based and foil0based plastics are not biodegradable. Thus, producers have a middle solution. They have introduced cellulose plastic. It has plants as the primary ingredient. Therefore, it is a safe option for the recycling process and the food itself. It has composed of large polymer molecules. When you take direct cellulose from the trees, it is not appropriate for food. However, now after polymerization, the molecules become a complete product to use. Therefore, it is safe to use cellulose food packaging. Well, still it cannot compete with some food packaging production. It is using efficient procedures and manners to become a complete product to use for food. Now, every efficient production uses cellulose for the preparation of products. It has all the elements that every other component uses.  But, it does not use thermo-plasticity. Cellulose plastic packaging only misses this feature.

Needs of Food Industry

There is a method for food packaging that has been developed by VTT. It enables the production of thermos-cell plastic, a thermoplastic substance, out of cellulose, and bio-based fatty acids. All these substances are appropriate for applications like injection molding, coating of papers, coating of paperboards, and 3D printing.

In labs, you decide on components and ingredients, but it is time to use bigger machinery for the final shape. Due to the machines, they can improve the quality of the film. Well, if you have a question in mind that either thermos-cell can produce on big machines, then it is yes. They can be produced on an industrial level. Moreover, it will use the same equipment on a bigger scale as well. You can use the machines for its production, you use for traditional plastic films. It has features that meet the requirements of the food industry.

Durable and Protective for Food

Cellulose food packaging has many questions and problems related to the new element. Some companies do not trust its protective element. The texture of this food packaging is thin; thus, people have dual thoughts. No doubt, it has a thin structure, but it can protect your food. The eatable is secure for the longer term. There are some times in life that you can’t win in.  Situations arise where the facts are always going to be against you either because of lies, or just dumb luck.  But even when you get knocked down you learn to thrive on the way back up.  That is what these lessons teach.  One annoying job brought about a bad day for me.   This day was all based on the failure of shipping materials and it was not my fault at all.  I worked at a car dealership and at the time was working in the parts department.  The job was simple and as a parts manager running the shipping, the department was a large portion of the organization.  This was a rather easy job and was mostly all about organization and creating processes to get parts in and out of our system and storage most efficiently. So on this day, a large part was supposed to be on our shipping truck. Dealing with delivery drivers was my morning routine. 

 Like normal the UPS diesel truck that was scheduled to arrive was on time and was going to be bringing lots of parts for high-end cars.  It was a racing car company and they were delivering some panels and tires which were of great expense.  The panel on this day was one of a thousand different parts that were on the truck for us. The driver backs the truck in and I started to unload the parts with the driver.  Most of our parts are either bare or are loaded in cardboard boxes for protection.  Large expensive parts are usually covered in a box and in this case, a forty thousand dollar part was on it for a Porchea.  Unknown to myself the part had actually punctured the package it was in. This meant that the part was sitting outside the cardboard box and exposed to everything else.  

This part was dragged, knocked, and bent.  This was unknown to all of us checking in the product and in the end, all the parts were checked in and I started to store them away.  It was not until a week later that the tear was found when the part was needed to be installed.  The panel had bent and the paint was chipped due to the part being exposed to the concrete and floor.  Since I was the person who had checked the product in I was responsible for it.  It was actually not myself who had put the product away and I was not aware of any damage.

The packaging did not save the part. This was not only a forty K loss for the store but the car was not able to be fixed until another one was shipped. So we had to eat the cost of the two weeks the racing car sat in our garage.  It was a sad situation and I was the only one blamed.  The parts failure was not my fault and I was told I would be fired for it.  After explaining the situation to my direct manager he was convinced that it was incompetence.  I simply told the store manager the exact story and he agreed with me that I did as any normal person would in the situation.  Make sure you insure shipping.

This year has become a wild ride already.  2021 is just as messed up as 2020 and we are all less free now.  But there are some things to think about that are so much more important than our government’s lies and regulations.  Keeping a solid family together is important and keeping your wife happy is important.  We witnessed the United States and the world react to COVID-19 and saw our whole world change.  The economy started to look more e-commerce and in some cases, brick and mortar stores were closed entirely.  The reality of this led many people to be stuck at home for days, weeks, and months on end.  Many people were told to work from home and we all learned to live and work together at our homes.  This was a certainly complicated affair especially with families that had kids.  But what we really learned was how to share our time, our space, and our snacks.  The ability to share our lives with each other in all aspects was hard, rewarding, and taught us many lessons.  The one lesson that I truly learned was that if you are going to get a nice snack for yourself then it goes that you need to also get your spouse their favorite set of candy boxes too. 

We have snacked, worked out, and eat together more this year and last year than ever before.  This has given me many chances and I learned this over the many months of being with my wife.  We worked together every single day in the same home.  We ended up working in separate rooms and that is good because our companies are rivals.
